With a glut of league games to come, Kiel need to move on from the defeat in Dortmund quickly.
Defeats to Bochum and Heidenheim have left Kiel needing to refind their feet quickly if they are to stay in contention.
The game turned on the red card but Bochum still came out with their heads held high.
The 1-1 draw at the Volksparkstadion maintained the Storks unbeaten record against HSV in the 2. Bundesliga.
A big few weeks are ahead but Bochum look like the team that could pull away at the top.
Kiel dominated much of the game but it was the hosts that coped better with their various absentees.
The standard of refereeing in the 2. Bundesliga has unfortunately come into the spotlight yet again, with events in Kiel and Hamburg over the weekend highlighting the issue.
