FC Erzgebirge Aue have begun their training camp in Poland with two new faces in Philipp Klewin and Ognjen Gnjatic.
Klewin arrives from 2. Bundesliga champions Arminia Bielefeld whilst Gnjatic was previously with Polish Ekstraklasa side Korona Kielce. They have signed contracts until 2023 and 2022 respectively
Klewin will provide back-up in goal for long-serving captain Martin Männel, particularly with Robert Jendrusch not signing a new deal. The 26-year-old only played five times in two seasons for Bielefeld but was vastly more established at Rot-Weiß Erfurt, where he made 177 appearances in the 3. Liga, keeping 53 clean sheets.
Gnjatic, capped at under-21 level by Bosnia and Heregovina, played in Bosnia, Serbia, Greece and the Netherlands before joining Kielce in early 2019. The 28-year-old central midfielder was a regular for the Polish side, making 40 appearances.
“I’m happy that we managed to make these two new signings,” said Aue coach Dirk Schuster. “We want to introduce Philipp and Ognjen to our team and integrate them well at our camp,” he continued.
The club have also already signed Florian Ballas and Gaëtan Bussmann to strengthen the side ahead of the new season. Meanwhile another goalkeeper, Kevin Harr, has also travelled to the training camp in western Poland. He left Hamburg II in the summer.
