The experienced left-back has signed a two-year contract with the side that have dropped down from the Bundesliga.
He had been a very dependable player for Bielefeld during his time there, making 122 apperances with four goals and 12 assists. However Anderson Lucoqui appeared to nudge ahead of him at the end of last season and with Jacob Barrett Laursen also signing, Hartherz was surpluss to requirements there.
Düsseldorf sporting director Uwe Klein said that Hartherz had been “one of the most consistent left-backs in the 2. Bundesliga last season” and had “played a large part in the fact that Arminia prevailed” in the race for promotion. He feels the 27-year-old will “benefit our team with his mentality.”
Hartherz meanwhile adds that he is “looking forward to his new role” on the Rhine and that he “would like to make a big contribution with the experience I have gained over the past few years.”
He is the second new signing of the summer for Uwe Rösler’s team, with midfielder Jakub Piotrowski having joined from Genk last week.
