Yassin Ben Balla steps up with Braunschweig

Eintracht Braunschweig have confirmed their latest new signing with Yassin Ben Balla signed on a free transfer from MSV Duisburg.

The defensive midfielder makes the step up to the second tier and has been handed a one-year contract with die Löwen after leaving the club coached by iconic former Braunschweig boss Torsten Lieberknecht.

The 24-year-old made 33 appearances in the 3. Liga for Duisburg last season after joining from Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The Frenchman had also been linked with a possible move to Hannover.

“Yassin Ben Bella is a player with a high presence in defensive midfield,” says sporting director Peter Vollmann, who notes his running and tackling ability was “more than striking throughout (last) season.”

Ben Balla naturally says he is “very happy” to join the club and is looking forward to playing in the second tier and taking “the next step in my career.”

He is the club’s fifth confirmed signing of the summer, with the previous four all being centre-backs or defensive midfielders. According to Transfermarkt though, they could be about to sign an attacking player, with a move for Würzburg’s Fabio Kaufmann “imminent.”
