Fortuna Düsseldorf have completed their first signing of the summer, with Jakub Piotrowski joining from KRC Genk.
The midfielder moves to Germany after a difficult two years for Genk, making just 22 appearances for them including just one after current coach, former Stuttgart and Hamburg boss Hannes Wolf, took after last season.
He spent the second half of last season with Waasland-Beveren, Genk’s Pro League rivals, making five appearances before the season ended prematurely due to COVID-19. He had previously played in his native Poland with Pogon Szczecin.
Düsseldorf sporting director Uwe Klein said that the club had consistently noticed the former Poland under-21 international “because of his calm on the ball, his willingness to run and his clean passing.” He says they are confident that Piotrowski “has not yet exhausted his great potential.”
“I am very happy to be at Fortuna,” says the 22-year-old, adding it was “quickly made clear” that his style of play would suit the club. “I felt that they club and the coach (Uwe Rösler) absolutely wanted me on board,” he added.
He has been handed the number 8 shirt and has signed a four-year contract with the club.
