Regensburg capture Swiss defender Jan Elvedi

SSV Jahn Regensburg have made another signing, with Jan Elvedi arriving from Swiss second tier side SC Kriens.

Elvedi is the twin brother of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi, and has signed a two-year contract with Regensburg. He joins the club immediately despite Kriens having two games left to play in the Swiss Challenge League.

The 23-year-old was developed at FC Zürich and has played for a number of Swiss teams, joining Kriens in 2018 from FC Wohlen. He played 70 games in total there and also acted as captain.

“Jan has developed at SC Kriens into an undisputed top player,” said sporting director Christian Keller. “With his mentality, his athleticism, his aggressiveness against the ball, and his skills on the ball, he has very good prerequisites for the 2. Bundesliga,” he added.

Elvedi said he has been given “a very positive impression” of the club and wants to help the team “as quickly as possible.” He adds that it’s an “exciting adventure for me” and he ready to “tackle this challenge.”

He will replace Tim Knipping, who joined Dynamo Dresden after a disappointing season at the Jahnstadion Regensburg, as well as potentially Marcel Correia, who is yet to sign a new contract.

He is the fourth new arrival at Regensburg, following Jan-Niklas Beste who arrived on Thursday, as well as André Becker and Kaan Caliskaner.
