Regensburg sign Bremen youngster Jan-Niklas Beste

SSV Jahn Regensburg have made their third signing of the summer, securing Jan-Niklas Beste on loan from Werder Bremen for the next two years.

The 21-year-old, who plays at left-back, who hasn’t played at first team level for Bremen, was on loan with Eredivisie side FC Emmen last season but was limited to just six appearances due to a knee injury, but did play three times for their second team.

He previously came through the youth system at Dortmund, winning titles at under-19 and under-17 level.

He comes to the Upper Palatinate with a high chance of regular football with the only other recognised left-back on the books being Alexander Nandzik, who has returned from a disappointing loan spell with Kaiserslautern.

“Niklas is a fast, technically well-versed and offensive left-back, who has developed immensely in the past season,” says sporting director Christian Keller, who hopes Beste will “take the next steps in his development” with the club.

Beste is confident he has found the right club to “take the next steps in my career,” and he is “looking forward” to getting settled in. “I already had a good feeling after the first discussions with the club,” he added.

It is unclear whether Beste’s signing indicates that Regensburg will be unable to bring back Chima Okoroji on loan from Freiburg, has had been their intention. The club have already missed out on re-signing Maximilian Thalhammer, who joined Paderborn on Thursday.
