It will be a tenth season at the club for the 34-year-old, who joined from local rivals MSV Duisburg in 2011.
Despite his age he remains a key player for Düsseldorf, and appeared 28 times as the club were relegated from the Bundesliga last season. In total he has played 253 games for the club so far.
Sporting director Uwe Klein believes that Bodzek had showed “how important” he was on and off the pitch over the past season. “With his leadership skills, his experience and his sporting skills, he will continue to be an important part of our team in the coming season,” he said.
Bodzek admits he is “still sad and disappointed” with how last season finished but he’s glad to carry on so he “can help with a fresh start in the new season.”
With numerous other players leaving the club, Uwe Rösler will be glad to tie down one of the potential replacements for captain Oliver Fink, who has stepped down to the U23 side for next season.
