Niklas Hauptmann joins Kiel on loan

Another day, another Holstein Kiel signing! The Fjord club have announced the signing of midfielder Niklas Hauptmann on a year’s loan from 1. FC Köln.

The now 24-year-old had joined Effzeh from Dynamo Dresden in 2018, but only made 12 apperances for the first team, all in the 2. Bundesliga in his first season, and he was demoted to the second team last season.

The former Dresden talent will now have a chance to reestablish himself in the league, and follows in the footsteps of Salih Özcan, who himself had a successful season with Kiel in the campaign just concluded.

Kiel’s managing director of sport Uwe Stöver said Hauptmann “is a technically talented player who links the offensive game very effectively,” and he believes his ability to play across central midfield “fits in very well with our idea of how we want to play football.”

“I think that my way of playing football fits very well with the philosophy of Holstein,” says Hauptmann himself. “The conversations with those responsible made me quickly believe that this was the right step.”

His arrival at the club follows that of Thomas Dähne, who was signed yesterday, as well as Ahmet ArslanSimon Lorenz and Marco Komenda.
