Kiel sign Ahmet Arslan for new season

Ahmet Arslan

Holstein Kiel have announced their first signing for the new season, with Ahmet Arslan joining from Regionalliga Nord champions VfB Lübeck.

The attacking midfielder scored 16 goals in 25 games this season, and finished as the league’s top scorer when the season was ended due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

Lübeck will be playing in the 3. Liga next season having been top when the season stopped, however the 26-year-old, who also previously played for Hamburger SV II and VfL Osnabrück, will be going a step further up.

Kiel sporting director Uwe Stöver said that Arslan “is a creative, strong player who fits well with our type of football and gives us even more variability on the offensive.” Arslan is also happy to make the next step in his career. “The good conversations with the management and especially with coach Ole Werner made me feel that this was the right decision,” he explained.

He has signed a four-year contract with the Storks, who are almost certain to be playing in the 2. Bundesliga again next season. He may act as a replacement for Salih Özcan, who is likely to return to parent club 1. FC Köln after Kiel’s final three matches.
